For Law Enforcement
Refer your victims to us - for free victim assistance

ITRC has worked with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies for more than a decade. We recognize the limitations many agencies are faced with due to budget constraints, staffing, and simply the scope of their work with these types of cases. The ITRC understands that the role of law enforcement is to investigate the crime and catch the perpetrator of the crime, not necessarily to assist victims in remediation of the damage that has been done to them.
The ITRC encourages agencies across the country to refer victims in need of assistance to our toll-free call center number. By providing law enforcement with a referral for these victims, the ITRC can relieve some of the burden of explaining to victims what actions they need to take thereby allowing you and your agency to focus your resources and investigative efforts elsewhere.
ITRC Fact Sheet 301 - Enhancing Law Enforcement and Identity Theft Communications, includes information designed for law enforcement entities and individuals. It covers items such as communicating with victims to tips on developing your own written communication forms for use in your jurisdiction.
The ITRC is available to assist with training, presentation materials, and additional information per your request. All ITRC materials are available for use by law enforcement at all levels. We discourage mass production of materials however, due to the frequent updating of information.
